“Pinecones with Tassel” Public Art Installation

New Gloucester Artist Patrick Plourde Brings His Pinecones to Freeport Town Hall

Located at: 30 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032

“Pinecones with Tassel,” a new temporary public art installation by Maine artist Patrick Plourde arrived Friday, July 10th for installation on the lawn in front of Town Hall. The two sculptures, each weighing approximately 250 to 300 pounds, are fabricated from reclaimed shovels and reference Maine's state flower, continuing Freeport's tradition of showcasing public art centered on environmental awareness and the creative reuse of materials. The materials have been treated for durability and are designed for seasonal outdoor display.

Town of Freeport

Public art installations like "Pinecones with Tassel” are part of a larger effort tied to Freeport's 2022 Downtown Vision Plan (PDF), a community-driven planning process that established a shared vision for the downtown's future and prioritized placemaking, the practice of shaping public spaces to reflect community identity and draw people downtown, as a core strategy for economic vitality. Well-designed public spaces and public art help activate civic areas, increase foot traffic, and support the mix of local businesses that make downtown Freeport a destination for residents and visitors alike. “Pinecones with Tassel” represents another step in that ongoing effort to build a downtown that is vibrant, welcoming, and reflective of the community's values.
