A Conversation About the Radical Acts of Reading and Writing with Accomplished Maine Authors Lily King and Susan Conley

In an age when our traditional thinking about reading (and writing) is being both challenged and transformed, hear from two Maine authors about their creative process and why they are compelled to read… and write.

Lily King and her family live in Portland, Maine. She is the author of five novels and one collection of short stories. She has been awarded the Kirkus Award, the Barnes and Noble Discover Prize, The New England Book Award, The Maine Fiction Award, and has been a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Story Prize. Her novel Euphoria was named one of the 10 Best Books of 2014 by The New York Times Book Review and has been optioned by the BBC as a limited series.

Susan Conley and her family share their time between Portland and Woolwich, Maine. She is the author of five books, including her newest novel Landslide, which was named a New York Times “Editor’s Choice” and a TODAY Show “Best Summer Read.” She’s won the Maine Book Award and the Maine Award for Publishing Excellence. Her book The Foremost Good Fortune chronicles the years she and her family lived in China during which they contended with Ms. Conley’s cancer diagnosis. She’s on the faculty of the Stonecoast MFA Program and is co-founder of the Telling Room, a creative writing lab for kids in Portland, Maine.

Thank you to Lead Sponsors, Ed & Jane Bradley and the Biberstein family, for their generous support of this event and Meetinghouse Arts.
