SUMMARY:Cadenza: Carole Wise
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time: Saturday\, April 18\, 2026 | 7:00 PM\nLocation: Cadenza\, 5 Depot Street\, Freeport\, ME\nCost: $30 in Advance | $35 at the Door | Student rate $15 \n  \n  \n\n\nJoin Singer-Songwriter Carole Wise for an evening of heartfelt\, artfully crafted folk and Americana originals. \n\n\n\n  \nCarole Wise is a Maine-based singer songwriter. She is the consummate performer. Her guitar/mandolin playing is both intricate and straight forward and her lyrics are nuanced\, lyrical and both personal and universal. \n  \nWe the listeners are not likely to have songs written about or for us\, yet\, in listening to Carole’s songs – we come close. Every song offers us a chance to connect to something: a feeling\, a thought\, a fear\, a hope. She evokes something familiar – something we have felt\, thought or worried about – as though she knew us. \n  \nWebsite: www.carolewisemusic.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information\, CLICK HERE.

SUMMARY:Freeport Folio: Pressure Makes Diamonds | Poetry Workshop with Joseph Coleman
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time: Saturday\, April 25\, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM\nLocation: Freeport Community Library\nCost: Pay What You Can \n  \nPressure Makes Diamonds \n  \nThe most challenging thing I find as a poet is finding the needed pressure to create new work. Two of the most productive periods of my poetry life had some element of a deadline. The first period was meeting with a group of good poets each Monday evening at The Poetry Society of America in New York City. The moment the workshop ended\, the clock began ticking for the following week. And the second period was the two years I worked on my MFA in poetry at Sarah Lawerence College. You wanted to show up for Marie Howe’s workshop ready to roll! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nIn this workshop\, “Pressure Makes Diamonds\,” we will use the pressure of workshopping an original poem and then reading that poem at an open mike that same evening. I will provide prompts and each student will get a typewriter if they would like to experience what it was like pre computers. As a Barnum and Bailey Ring Master would yell out when a rogue elephant dashed for the exits: “The Show Must Go On!” or in our case: “Poems Must Be Read!” \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information\, CLICK HERE.

SUMMARY:Bailey's Mistake
DESCRIPTION:WHEN: Saturday\, May 16\, 2026 @ 7:00 PM (Doors @ 6:30 PM)\nWHERE: Meetinghouse Arts\, 40 Main St.\, Freeport\, ME 04032\nA not-quite-traditional\, Celtic-inspired\, four-piece folk band from Maine!\n$25 in Advance | $30 at the Door | $15 Students\nFinancial barriers shouldn’t prevent anyone from experiencing the arts. Please know that our Arts Access Fund is available to help ensure everyone can attend.\n \nBailey’s Mistake is a not-quite-traditional\, Celtic-inspired\, four-piece folk band from Maine. The group mixes traditional music from Ireland\, Scotland and Newfoundland with brand new songs about contemporary life in New England. Bailey’s Mistake’s pulsing sound is driven by bass\, drums and guitar and topped off with hearty vocal harmonies and thrilling bagpipe and whistle tunes. \n\nThe band takes its name from a legend told for generations along the Maine coast. Back in the 19th century\, there was a certain ship captain named Bailey. He was trying to guide his vessel safely around West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and into Lubec Harbor. Unfortunately\, it was a foggy night and he missed. Instead of safe harbor\, Bailey ran aground in a shallow\, rocky inlet just south of the lighthouse. \n\nBut rather than face the wrath of the ship’s furious owners in Boston\, Bailey and his crew unloaded the lumber they had on board\, built houses in the cove and settled down with several local ladies. \n\nTo this day\, on most good maps\, that little harbor is simply labeled “Bailey’s Mistake.” \nThis concert is made possible through the generous support of British Goods
